Mikela Ristoski (Croatia) has taken the first Gold medal in the F20 Class at the IPC World Athletics Championships in New Zealand. Her jump of 5.10 meters in the Long Jump secured first place ahead of Karolina Kucharczyk (Poland) who took Silver with a jump of 5.00 meters and 3rd placed Krestina Zhukova (Russia) with a jump of 4.80 meters.
The championships are the first to include athletics events for athletes with Intellectual Disability since the classification was re-instated in November 2009, and provides a first glimpse of those athletes who might be hoping to qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games.
The event is followed by the Mens Long Jump today (26th January).
In total 25 World records and 75 Championship records have been set since the event began four days ago.
