Inas sanctioned 2015 Ivor Burge Championships ready for Tip Off
The Ivor Burge Basketball Championships are the National Open-Age Championships for athletes with an intellectual disability in Australia.
The men’s division will also feature a guest team from Japan, who will face the Australian Boomerangs at the completion of the Championships. The clash marks the next step of preparation for the teams in their path to the 2015 Inas Global Games. The Boomerangs finished fourth and Japan sixth at the 2011 Global Games and Australia most recently placed third at the 2013 World Championships in Turkey.
The Ivor Burge Championships takes place in Melbourne 22-28 February and sees 8 men’s teams and 5 women’s scheduled to compete in a fierce field of competition. The Boomerangs’ match against Japan is scheduled to take place on Sunday 1st March, 1PM on the show court of the Dandenong Basketball Stadium.

As the semi-finalists in this years Australian Open Tennis were being decided in Melbourne today, the competition for players with an intellectual disability got underway with 33 players competing for both singles and doubles titles.
Professor Jan Burns (UK), Inas Head of Eligibility, today received an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours List for services to people with a learning disability.
Amaury Russo, Inas President was a guest this week at the Russian Paralympic Committee annual IX Return to Life Award Ceremony, honouring outstanding achievements of Russian athletes, coaches, medical and support staff as well as other contributes to the success of Russian National Team at the major international competitions in 2014.
